The opportunity As a Project Engineer in station layer upgrade and modernization projects within HVDC Service, you will take end-to-end responsibility for the technical delivery of station layer systems across all project phases. Your work will play a vital role in modernizing HVDC systems and strengthening critical infrastructure for the future. The HVDC station layer system encompasses a suite of HVDC applications - including the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for operator interaction, sequence and event recording for operational monitoring and diagnostics, as well as remote control functionalities utilizing communication protocols. These applications are seamlessly integrated with the underlying IT infrastructure, which comprises network components such as servers, workstations, switches, firewalls, and time synchronization devices. How you’ll make an impact Design, implementation and verification of either HVDC applications (HMI, sequence/event recording, remote control) or with underlying IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, switches, firewalls, time synchronization devices). Collaborate with project manager, lead engineer, engineering teams, and customer representatives to define requirements, scope, and deliverables. Maintain documentation for system design, configuration, and testing activities. Your background You have a Background in a relevant field and have experience with project execution from tender to implementation. Familiarity with Hitachi Energy’s and HVDC product portfolio or comparable systems is considered an advantage. This role is based at our office and test facilities in Ludvika. About the Project Our client conducts risk assessments on transformers in service using an internally developed tool that calculates the risk for future failures. The current tool—a web application with Excel import/export capabilities—has become outdated and unstable. To ensure reliable future assessments, we are developing a new tool based on existing parameters and functionality. Key Responsibilities • Review the existing tool built on .NET Framework and Excel integration. • Upgrade or replace the current solution based on specifications of existing rules and parameters. • Participate in platform selection and architecture decisions for the new tool. • Ensure the tool is configurable by domain experts, allowing rule modifications (add/remove/configure). • Design for future migration from on-premise to Azure cloud. • Implement a solution for database storage of all performed assessments. • Deliver a tool that is easy to maintain and modify after initial release. • Deliver high quality documentation of the solution. • Collaborate with the original developer (available for limited hours) for knowledge transfer. • Close collaboration with domain experts and users to understand needs and function of the application.
